Checkpoint Systems Launches On-line Training Academy

September 28, 2010

Thorofare , N.J. , Sept. 28, 2010 – Checkpoint Systems, Inc. (NYSE:CKP), a leading global supplier of shrink management, merchandise visibility and apparel labeling solutions for the retail industry and its supply chain, has launched “Checkpoint Academy,” an on-line training academy designed to help retailers maximize the effectiveness of their in-store loss prevention investments.

Checkpoint Academy aims to drive best practices and increase returns on retailers’ security and operational investments, through modular and interactive web-based training for store associates, delivered within the store environment.

Using a powerful combination of audio and visual aids, Checkpoint Academy training is delivered through easy-to-follow content explained in simple and relevant terms. Video scenarios and accompanying narration ensure that users are engaged, and scored training helps store and Human Resources managers identify areas that require additional support.

The first module available is “Maintaining EAS Effectiveness”. With retail shrink costing the industry billions of dollars per year, it is not only essential for retailers to implement world-class EAS technology but also to ensure that staff is well trained to effectively interact with it. The Maintaining EAS Effectiveness module promotes good in-store EAS compliance and demonstrates how positive interaction with EAS not only reduces theft, but also increases sales opportunities and improves the customer shopping experience.

The Maintaining EAS Effectiveness module is made-up of six cohesive chapters that introduce the student to the course, highlight the importance of EAS, walk the user through the system parts, explain best practices at the checkout, demonstrate how best to handle system activations and conclude with a test.

Farrokh Abadi, Worldwide President, Shrink Management Solutions at Checkpoint Systems, explained the importance of this training for retailers, “To achieve the greatest return on any retail loss prevention investment, it is essential to maximize its use to its full potential. Checkpoint Academy was developed to complement the face-to-face training that we offer retailers and help ensure that store staff continues to employ best practices regarding knowledge and use of store loss prevention systems. It also lets store associates know that management is serious about security and empowers them to handle situations in accordance with store guidelines.”

The Maintaining EAS Effectiveness module should be viewed as an essential supplement to any EAS program, to help stores deter thieves and increase sales. Checkpoint Systems will continue to update and add new modules to the Academy.

Noted Abadi, “As global leaders, we understand that the retail environment is constantly changing, and training must keep pace with developments in technology. Future training modules will focus on improving store operations and reducing shrink while increasing visibility, sales and profitability.”

Per Levin, Checkpoint’s Worldwide President, Merchandise Visibility Solutions, added, “Retailers need to continue to fight the multi-billion dollar shrink problem on all fronts. A training tool such as Checkpoint Academy – which enables large-scale retailers to train their staffs in EAS procedures at low cost, monitor compliance and maximize their loss prevention investments – will grow with them as they move toward implementing RFID-based technologies to increase sales through better merchandise visibility.”

Checkpoint Academy is powered by a SCORM*-compliant learning management system. Available 24/7, users can progress through the course as work commitments permit allowing them to complete the training in stages or benefit from refresher updates at a later stage.
