Checkpoint Systems introduces EVOLVE ECO, a new range of energy-saving Electronic Article Surveillance antennas

THOROFARE, New Jersey – Checkpoint Systems, Inc. (NYSE:CKP), a leading global supplier of shrink management, merchandise visibility and apparel labeling solutions for the retail industry and its supply chain, today launched a new line of EVOLVE ECO antennas for its industry-leading EVOLVE Radio Frequency (RF) Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS) Systems.

The new EVOLVE ECO systems provide a dramatic energy savings of up to 40 percent over the previous EVOLVE system. They are part of Checkpoint’s continued efforts to offer a variety of environmentally friendly solutions to its retail customers.

“With the new ECO range, we’ve significantly reduced energy consumption compared to other systems,” noted Rob van der Merwe, Chairman, President and CEO of Checkpoint Systems. “EVOLVE ECO EAS systems also provide better theft detection when paired with another of our ‘green’ solutions: our Enhanced Performance (EP) labels.”

The EP Labels family includes labels that are significantly smaller in size and reduce the consumption of raw materials as they are manufactured using less aluminum, paper and plastic than standard labels. They cut back on manufacturing waste and energy while actually enhancing detection performance.

In fact, by switching to EVOLVE ECO systems, one Checkpoint customer expects to save more than $16 million on energy costs over the next 10 years.

According to independent research conducted by Energy Logic, Inc., an energy consulting company focused on the Fortune-500 retail sector with a 16-year history specializing in energy conservation and demand response programs, when compared with competitive-technology EAS systems on the market, EVOLVE ECO can achieve energy savings of up to 75 percent.

“We have studied Checkpoint’s radio frequency EAS systems on two occasions and both times, we found that Checkpoint provides significant energy savings over systems using other technologies,” noted Energy Logic President Carolyn Banks. “There are cost savings that can be achieved by installing EVOLVE ECO RF-EAS systems in stores, and when you consider that some chain stores have hundreds – or even several thousands – of locations across a country or globally, retailers stand to gain tremendous savings on their energy bills throughout the life of their systems.”
